UAE Labour Law Overview

The UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021) governs employment relationships in the private sector across all seven emirates. It introduced significant reforms including flexible work models, anti-discrimination provisions, and enhanced employee protections.

Key changes include the elimination of unlimited contracts, mandatory conversion to limited-term contracts, and new provisions for part-time, temporary, and freelance work arrangements.

At LexBridge, we help both employers and employees navigate these regulations to ensure compliance and protect their rights in the Dubai workplace.

End-of-Service Gratuity in the UAE

Under UAE Labour Law, employees who complete one year of continuous service are entitled to end-of-service gratuity. The calculation is based on 21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years, and 30 days for each subsequent year.

Common disputes arise regarding the calculation base, deductions, and eligibility after resignation versus termination. LexBridge provides precise calculations and represents clients in gratuity disputes before MOHRE and Dubai Labour Courts.

The new law also introduced the Savings Scheme as an alternative to traditional gratuity, giving employers the option to invest end-of-service benefits in approved funds.
